DRC: Opposition protest Kabila possible third term bid

The Democratic Republic of Congo opposition leaders took to the streets of Lumumbashi on Wednesday to protest the incumbent president Joseph Kabila uncertain political future. The opposition leaders believed he could be planning to run for third term.

The opposition leaders indicated the importance of Kabila vacating the office before the end of his December mandate. The protesting crowd was dispersed by the Police and has lead to a tense atmosphere in DRC.
However, the security officials have assured the citizens that the situation is under control. The protesting opposition suspects the incumbent government officials carried out the acts of vandalism at one of the opposition party premises on Tuesday.
The incumbent government's relationship with opposition remains strained despite the resolution of UN mediation by African Union.
Joseph Kabila came to power in 2001 and won the disputed 2006 and 2011 elections. The constitution does not permit him another term in the office.
